This was an experiment in handling the same color in different subjects like the wall, cat and the piece of furniture. My reference photo was taken by Laura Nelson and posted on Paint My Photo-a website where photographers grant artist permission to use their photos for their art. I usually like to take my own reference photos but this was a fun challenge.

"The Battle"

This painting is something I have never done before-a war scene but this is not an actual war just a re-enactment captured by a photographer friend of mine, David Churchill. When he showed me some of the photos from the re-enactment he saw, I said I was drawn to the action of the horses so he said "paint it". I used his photo for reference but changed some things and has sparked a thought to create a series of civil war horses. I will be doing my research and try this new series.

"Outdoor Cafe in Annapolis"

This is a new pastel that I just finished. It is a little bit different for me but I wanted to paint from my photo I took on a trip to Annapolis last year. I liked the colorful outdoor cafe and of course there is a dog in it. Looks like a Chow Chow.

"Pears in a Bowl"

I just completed this pastel of pears in a bowl but always looking at ways to improve it. Even though pastels are messy, I love to watch the color pop on on the paper and form the object that is in front of me.

"Purple Iris"

My friend gave me me some cuttings from her iris but did not tell me what color. I was so amazed when these deep purple flowers bloomed in my garden. I knew I had to paint them and this is the second one, The first was a watercolor.
