Work in progress Colored pencil by Charlotte Yealey

I finally got to my favorite part-the dogs. Even with trying to get all the legs and tails in that are hanging below her arm, it is fun to draw in these little faces.

Work in progress Colored pencil by Charlotte Yealey

The background on a piece this size takes the majority of the time and this one has a large area of background. I concentrate very hard on keeping my pencil work even and a continuing flow of color coming from my pencil. The first layer on the background took an hour and then another hour to work on the face and hair.

Work in progress Colored Pencil by Charloltte Yealey

colored pencil work in progress
My husband and I went to a "Docks Dog" event at Lake Marburg outside of Hanover and I took lots of photos of dogs and people. I was really intrigued with a couple that came to the edge of the lake with 8 dogs. The man walked 3 yellow labs on leashes and a mastif. The girl carried 3 chihuahuas and 1 dachshund. Another man with them had a professional looking camera and was taking their picture. Since I had a zoom lens on my camera, I could get a few shots from where I was sitting. When I saw this shot when I loaded on my computer, I had to do it in colored pencils. This is a shot when I first started the lake in the background and I will continue to post a shot after each hour of work.

This is another cat commission I just completed. This comfy kitty on it's owners sofa was fun to do and it's owner was thrilled.

"Lady Liberty" Colored Pencil by Charlotte Yealey

8-1/2 x 11
Colored Pencil
I found a photo that my mother took on one of their trips to New York. I liked it a lot and decided to do Lady Liberty in colored pencil since I had already painted her in oils years back from one of my trip photos. The clouds need work but I am satisfied with the statue.

"Mom's Orange Juice Pitcher" Colored Pencil by Charlotte Yealey

Colored Pencil
I love carnival glass and I remembered that my mom use to make orange juice in this carnival glass pitcher when we were kids. I know own the pitcher and decided to use it as a subject for this colored pencil painting. This is one of my entries to the juried show in York.
