"Mare and Foal" Colored Pencil by Charlotte Yealey

8x10
Colored Pencil

Due to a spring cold and procrastination, I finally finished one of several paintings I had been working on. I photographed horses near the Hanover Shoe Farms last year and I love this mare and her foal. I liked that she was a different color than her foal and I liked the way the trees looked in the photo in the background. The background took longer to do than the horses.

"Lift Me Up" Colored Pencil by Charlotte Yealey

9 x 12
Colored Pencil
I was going through old photos and remembered that this was one of my favorites so I created it in colored pencil. My husband and my granddaughter-she is now 13. I loved the way the light made them glow and I tried to capture that.

"Tulips" in Neocolors by CharlotteYealey

10 1/2 x 8
"Tulips"
Neocolors
This is a painting I did for a demo at the "Art in the Garden" booth at the Mid Atlantic Garden show in York on Friday March 5. I chose to work in neocolors that day because it is a fun medium and easy to take along. When I teach children's workshops, the kids love this medium because they look like crayons but you can also paint with them. You apply the color and can even layer colors on the paper then use a wet watercolor brush to blend the colors. The amount of water you use on the brush determines the opaqueness or translucency of the painting. Here is another painting I did in neocolors.

I love the brilliant colors I can create on flowers with this medium.

"Sleeping Kittens" Watercolor Pencil by Charlotte Yealey

11 x 7 1/2

Recently Debi Watson had added in her post a link to her Flickr page for photo references and I fell in love with her kitten pictures. I always work from my own photos but I thought I check out her photos and I am glad I did. I have posted some of my own photos on my Flicker page to share.
