New colored pencil on suede mat board. I never used this before with colored pencil and I think I really like it. Not satisfied with the background but I will work on it. 8x10 drawn from my own reference photo.
Day 30 of the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge. My last piece is a colored pencil painting of Haley from one of her selfies taken in 2012. I have enjoyed this challenge and am proud that I stuck to my theme of people portraits. It was not easy doing a portrait a day and also working on commissions and painting for my galleries.
Life gets busy so for #10 I posted this "work in progress". A colored pencil drawing of a scottish deerhound I met at a lure coursing event. I had a busy day so I will have to finish this one on another day.
When I accepted the Leslie Saeta challeng of 30 paintings in 30 days, I asked my FB followers on my art page to send a photo of their pet that they took and this is the second one I received. Loved this guy smooching on Santa so I drew it in colored pencils.
My second painting of the challenge was started before the end of 2013 but was finished today and framed and delivered to Hanover Art Guild as my entry into the members show"Through Any Window". The title is "On the Outside looking In" from my own photo of Deb Nell's sheltie, Riley.

I
am so excited and honored to have my art included in this book along
with some of the most accomplished colored pencil artist. I received my
hard copy in the mail today. What a great Christmas present.
My dog, Halen the ibizan hound, loves to run. This colored pencil drawing was fun to do because of his happy expression when gets a chance to do what he loves to do. I also tried to capture the sense of movement in his legs and sometimes completely airborne.
I joined a sight call "Paint My Photo" and found the reference photo for this colored pencil painting. The dogs name is Beau and he is a young Irish Setter. I really enjoyed this portrait.
My reference photo for this drawing is a photo I took in the Florida everglades many years ago. This bird and many more were at a wildlife refuge where we also took an airboat ride through the everglades. I am working on subjects for an exotic pet art display.
This young golden retriever was at a dog lure coursing event to be socialized and have a try at coursing. It seemed to have a lot of fun that day so I had to do this colored pencil drawing.

Colored Pencils and Neocolors
I
created this portrait of my granddaughter from a cell photo photo she
took of herself while riding in the car with her mom. Windows were open
and her hair was blowing which created a wild effect. I titled it "Aldabella" which means beautiful in Italian.

I have been working on several commisson requets of the same dog. This is Tula. She was adopted from an Ibizan Hound rescue in Spain where her mother delivered her and her siblings. Her owner Sue is a very nice Lady from the UK rescued her and is giving her a wonderful life. Sue asked me to do several colored pencil drawings and these are the first two.

Colored pencil on Colorfix Paper
I had the pleasure to meet this young borzoi girl at a sighthound event here in Hanover.
The event was the Mason Dixon Ibizan Hound Club Lure Couraing Trials for all sighthounds.
It was very warm that day but this girl seemed like she was happy to be there so from the photos I took of her, I drew this colored pencil drawing. Sighthounds are beautiful and graceful and I enjoyed creating this.
This is a work in progress. It has been awhile since I worked on black so I decided to draw Halen, my Ibizan hound sleeping on the rug at the glass door. Catching the right light with the colored pencils is fun but the shaded area is a little tricky. I want to show that the rest of the body is there but not too much to take away the dramatic shadows. I am working on this in between commissions and competition pieces.
This is my most recent painting of a
Auodad Sheep. He is a resident of the Catoctin Zoo where I photographed
him years ago but just recently decided to paint this for a demo in my
colored pencil class. I showed my students how colored pencil can be
used with many other mediums.
I think I found another favorite medium combination.
I was notified that this painting called "Zebra Look" was accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America's annual international exhibit called "Explore This 8". This is an acrylic and colored pencil painting on illustration board. I completed this last year and entered it into the York Art Association's 41st annual Juried show and during the juring, it was declined. Then I entered it into the Hanover Area Arts Guild fall show and it won "Best of Show".
This is my second entry that was accepted into the Colored Pencil Society of America's show. The last one was in 2009 and it was called "Horse's in the Snow". Art competitions can be sometimes disappointing and also rewarding.
