My 33 paintings in 30 Days

This year was a great challenge. I enjoyed painting every painting and the response I received from everyone was so uplifting. I want to thank everyone fro their comments and kindness.

Day 30 the final day of the "30 Paintings in 30 Days" challenge is a pastel  from a reference photo taken by Cyndi Russell. I decided to title this "Nosey".

Day #29 is a portrait of Dutch a Stabyhoun owned by Juliette Barke Myers from Virginia. I never painted this breed before but he has a very soulful face.

On day 28 as I was cleaning my house, I was thinking about what I will post for the challenge. I have two commission works in progress but I thought that I have not painted any of my animals yet. So this is my borzoi, Alia, doing what she loves to do and that is running. My friend Wendy Erdman took this photo of her at a lure coursing practice in Littlestown last summer so this is the painting I did of her today.

Day 27 I painted another rooster. I know I am rooster crazy but I needed a mini rooster to go with my mini hen with chick. I have two commission in progress that might not be finished in this challenge so I am painting small paintings for my galleries.

Day 26 of the 30 painting in 30 days is a painting I have been working on in between the small daily paintings so since I completed it today, I though I would make it the 26th painting. The landscape is from my own reference photo taken in Gettysburg of the McLean Farm and the fox is from a photo by Carla Eckels Derr with her permission.

Day#25 is an oil portrait of Rocky, my daughter and grandson's Australian Shepherd.

Rocky is a very happy dog-always smiling and loves to have fun.

Day #22 is an oil portrait of "Oliver" owned by my friend Andi Hockensmith. Even though I have never met him, I can tell he has tons of personality.

Day #21 I chose to paint this mourning dove that I photographed outside my kitchen window. I like the challenge of capturing their coloring in different light.

Day #20 is a portrait of A Yorkie that will be a gift to someone so I can not say who commissioned me to paint it. Now that I see it on the computer screen, there is more work I need to do to it so I will call this one a work in progress.

Day #19 is a portrait of a domestic shorthaire cat. The variations of color  in the coats of these cats is a pleasant challenge. I want Thank Daisyree Bakker for the use of her photo for the reference of my painting. This painting is available.

Day #18 is my oil painting of a black and white cow from my own reference photo. I have always loved painting cows even though our farm I grew up on did not have dairy cows but my best friend in grade school lived on a dairy farm. I was so happy when she invited me to visit  her farm .

Day#17 is action painting of Kodi a borzoi owned by Martine Burton. I love painting animal in movement especially the borzoi with their elegant bodies and flowing hair. Thank you Martine for letting me use your photo for reference of Kodi lure coursing.

Day #16 is a colored pencil drawing that have been working on and still do not consider it finished since I feel something is wrong but not sure what it is. The reference photo is one I took at the "Greyhounds in Gettysburg" event.

Day #14 is a portrait of Ember, owned by my friend Val Koogle. It is so hard to loose our pets but their memories live in our hearts forever.

Day #13 I chose to paint a greyhound in the stretching position. This breed is so elegant that even when they are doing something normal as stretching, they are a work of art.

Day #12 is a portrait of "Shinier" a standard schnauzer pup from Cetah Standard Schnauzers bred by Dana Chronister. I thank Tom Brown for the use of his photo of his precious pup.

Day #11 is a portrait of a American Bulldog who was fostered by Wendi Miztel, Rest in Peace Katie Bug.

Day #10 is a portrait of sweet Sammi the sheltie who desperately needed a home and because of my Facebook post, she found Christina Green who gave her love and hours of training to bring this little pup out of her shell due to non-socialization. Sammy is now a therapy dog and loved member of the Green family.

Day #9 is a portrait of Wendi Mitel's chihuahua, Meeko-very well trained and a therapy dog for 7 years. I thank Wendi for allowing me to paint from her photo which I felt the perspective was very different and appealing.

Day #8 painting for 30 paintings in 30 days is a portrait of Blaze owned by my friend Kathy's son.

Siberian Huskeys are a challenge to paint because their coloring and soft hair makes their face look like a stuffed animal then the artist's job is to create a real and natural dog.

For day #7 I really did challenge myself by painting a larger size of a cat in one day. I do love painting cats almost as much as dogs but usually on a smaller scale. I want to thank Emmanul Keller for allowing me to use the photo of his encounter with this beautiful Maine Coon cat as my reference.

My painting for day #6 is Lucy, a bulldog mix, rescued by my friend Kathy Toal Phillipsen, Even though I have never met Lucy, she has a soft and loving look and Kathy says she has been a wonderful addition to her family.

Day #5 of my 30 paintings in 30 days I painted one of my favorite breeds of dogs which is a greyhound. I photographed this lovely girl at the event "Greyhounds in Gettysburg". I was a vender during this event in 2015 and plan on being there again this year. They are such a gentle breed.

Day #4 of the 30 paintings in 30 days, I chose to post a commission I have been working on for my friend Val of her dearly missed blue doberman, Cinzano. Even though this challenge is directed toward painting a painting in one day, I thought this post would qualify since I worked on this painting everyday for nearly 30 days.

 My #3 subject for the 30 paintings in 30 challenge is a Chinese Crested dog. Since I love painting dogs and I am drawn to some of the breeds you do not see much, I chose  the photo of this one that visited me years ago and never painted from this reference photo before. I can not recall his name and can not believe I did not list the name on the back of the photo. His owner was a customer of mine at the time but I never groomed this guy. He was very interested in everything in my yard including the birds.

This pretty pup is owned by a friend of mine, Wendi Mitzel.Wendi is a trainer at My K9 Buddy where I train my dog.The  photo used for this painting was taken by Wendi and she gave me permission to use it as a reference.

Happy New Year! Again in 2016 I have accepted the "30 Paintings in 30 Days" challenge along with Leslie Saeta and 350 other artists around the world. My theme of my paintings the first year I participated was "Pets" and the second year was "People" so this year I decided the theme will be "Subjects I Love to Paint". My very first painting is a rabbit I photographed at a petting zoo years ago. I had rabbits as a kid and my children also had them so this is a subject I love to paint.
